"He's just a strong young man," Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said. "He can hit them out all over the place. I'm not too worried about him."
Competing for a bullpen job, Clement allowed nine runs - eight earned - six hits and seven walks in 4 1-3 innings. His ERA rose to 9.58.
"He struggled a bit with his control," Blue Jays manager Cito Gaston said. "Overall, it wasn't what we wanted to see, and I'm sure it wasn't what he wanted to see."
Scott Baker, already announced as Minnesota's opening-day starter, gave up four runs and nine hits in 4 2-3 innings, struck out five and walked none. He lowered his ERA to 8.15.
"His fastball was going down," Gardenhire said. "He's still working on some things. We'll keep running him out there."
Winner Sean Henn allowed three hits in 1 1-3 scoreless innings.
Scott Richmond, also in contention for a rotation spot, followed Clement and struck out five, giving up two earned runs off nine hits in 3 2-3 innings.
Matt Tolbert started at second base for the Twins and went 4-for-5 with an RBI. Nick Punto went 2-for-3 with a walk and two RBI.
Twins reliever Jose Mijares gave up two runs, one hit and a walk in two-thirds of an inning. Gardenhire pulled Mijares from the game when he bruised his left leg.
Mijares has a 12.86 ERA.
"He threw 91, so his velocity is up," Gardenhire said. "It would have been nice to have seen him finish the inning, but he got hurt."
