White Sox-Twins Preview
At least the Chicago White Sox won't have to worry about the weather during their road trip.

After suffering through several rain interruptions during their homestand, the White Sox open a six-game road trip on Tuesday against the Minnesota Twins in the start of a two-game set.

The White Sox (14-10) are coming off a 3-3 homestand. In Monday's finale of a four-game series with Baltimore, the game was called after 11 innings because of rain with the score tied at 3.

The start of that game was delayed 2 hours, 6 minutes by rain and the gametime temperature was only 38 degrees with wind blowing at 12 mph. Rain fell intermittently throughout, and it picked up in the late innings.

"It was tough. It was hard. The infield was pretty brutal," White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen said. "For the safety of the players, (the umpires) made that decision."

The suspension of Monday's game came after the teams played a doubleheader on Saturday to make up for a rainout on Friday. Baltimore and Chicago split Saturday's two contests and the White Sox won 6-1 on Sunday.

Chicago came into the series with the Orioles having lost two of three at home to the Yankees. Two of those games also were also delayed by rain.

Rain and cold won't be a factor on this road trip for the White Sox, who after this set at the Metrodome, visit Toronto's Rogers Centre for a four-game series beginning Friday.

Chicago's Carlos Quentin is looking to build off his strong homestand. He hit .478 (11-for-23) during the seven games, with three doubles, two home runs and five walks. The right fielder, in his first season with Chicago after two with Arizona, was 3-for-4 on Monday with a home run.

The White Sox and Twins (11-14) split their first two meetings in Chicago earlier this month. Minnesota was 5-4 at home against the White Sox last year.

The Twins have lost four of their last five, though, including two of three over the weekend at Texas. Minnesota closed the series with a 10-0 loss on Sunday in its fourth shutout of the season.

The Twins rank second-to-last in the AL in runs scored (95), but manager Ron Gardenhire said it's the pitching that needs to step up the most. In the last four games, starters have pitched through five innings just once, and twice they failed to make it through the third, including on Sunday when Livan Hernandez lasted just 2 2-3 innings, allowing seven runs.

"Our bullpen has thrown way too many innings and our starters not enough," Gardenhire said. "Our bullpen is overworked, to say the least."

Gardenhire is hoping Boof Bonser (1-4, 4.34 ERA) can help turn things around.

Bonser is looking to avoid his third straight loss. He's been hurt by a lack of run support this season, including last Wednesday against Oakland, when he pitched six innings, allowing two runs and three hits in a 3-0 loss.

The Twins have backed Bonser's five starts with a combined six runs.

The right-hander is 1-2 with a 4.24 ERA in five career starts and one relief appearance against the White Sox.

Gavin Floyd (2-0, 2.84) counters for Chicago. Floyd allowed five runs and five hits while walking four on Thursday against the Yankees, but he escaped without a decision when the White Sox went on to win 7-6.

The right-hander is 0-2 with a 7.94 ERA in two career starts against Minnesota.
