--OF Denard Span's two-run triple in the sixth inning gave Minnesota's a one-run edge, albeit briefly, and was the team's eighth of triple of the season. Minnesota has eight triples this year, second in the American League behind Kansas City, which has 12.
--DH/OF Jason Kubel's eighth-inning, pinch home run was the second pinch homer in Kubel's career and his fifth home run of the season. Kubel entered the game in place of CF Carlos Gomez in the eighth and hit the first pitch he saw above the right field baggie, scoring two runs to tie the game 9-9. --INF Matt Tolbert drove in his first and second runs of the season Wednesday night on a sacrifice fly and a single. Tolbert, who was called up from Class AAA Rochester last week to replace 2B Alexi Casilla (sent down to Rochester), is hitting .231 this season.
--RHP Matt Guerrier took over eighth-inning duties along with LHP Jose Mijares on Tuesday night. Twins manager Ron Gardenhire had hoped to use RHP Jesse Crain, who has been laboring of late, and Mijares in the eighth inning, but he admitted that he'll have to use whoever is getting outs. The Twins have struggled to find a setup man since RHP Pat Neshek, who had Tommy John and won't return until the 2010 season, went down with an elbow injury early last year.
MEDICAL WATCH:
RHP Boof Bonser (torn right labrum and rotator cuff surgery in February 2009) went on the 15-day disabled list April 2. He is out for the season.
RHP Pat Neshek (right elbow surgery) went on the 60-day disabled list Feb. 21. He will remain in Florida all summer and targets a return by next spring.
