Minnesota Twins Roster Report 2009-09-07

Minnesota Twins Roster Report 2009-09-07--RF Michael Cuddyer went 0-for-3 on Sunday. He's now hitless in his last 16 at-bats, though he did fly out to deep left field in the fourth inning and was perhaps robbed of a substantial hit thanks to the wind blowing in at Progressive Field. "I crushed that ball. I don't know what happened. I crushed it. I thought at the very least it was going to be off the wall. There was a lot of wind. Anytime you see that big old flag in center field just moving, you know there's something out there."

--RHP Armando Gabino won the call up sweepstakes. The pitcher was vying with RHP Anthony Swarzak for the final pitcher call up to the big leagues this season, and on Sunday the team announced Gabino will join the team Tuesday in Toronto. Gabino came up for one start with the Twins in August. This time around he'll pitch from the bullpen where manager Ron Gardenhire thinks he's better suited.

--INF/OF Justin Huber, who signed a minor league deal with the Twins before the 2009 season, will join the big league club Tuesday in Toronto, the Twins announced Sunday. Huber had 22 home runs and 76 RBI for Class AAA Rochester through Saturday and will provide the Twins with a right-handed pinch hitter off the bench.

MEDICAL WATCH:

3B Joe Crede (lower back strain) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to Aug. 22. He had a second epidural Aug. 31 and said it began lessening his pain almost immediately. He hit off a tee Sept. 4.

LHP Francisco Liriano (left arm fatigue) went on the 15-day disabled list Aug. 18. An MRI showed no structural damage, and the Twins are likely to activate him Sept. 10 and put him in their bullpen.

RHP Kevin Slowey (strained right wrist) went on the 15-day disabled list July 4, and he was transferred to the 60-day DL on Aug. 12. He was expected to begin a rehab assignment with Class AAA Rochester on July 25, but he experienced too much pain July 24 to even play catch, and the Twins shut him down. He had season-ending surgery Aug. 4.

RHP Boof Bonser (torn right labrum and rotator cuff surgery in February 2009) went on the 15-day disabled list April 2 and was transferred to the 60-day DL on Aug. 7. He was initially thought to be out for the season but is ahead of schedule and could be activated in September.

RHP Pat Neshek (right elbow surgery) went on the 60-day disabled list Feb. 21. He will remain in Florida all summer, targeting a return by next spring.
