"I thought it quite possible we would lose him, but fortunately for us, nobody put in a claim," said general manager Bill Smith. Morillo pitched well in two of his three appearances for the Twins, but isn't ready for the major leagues. "We're excited to have that arm in our system now," Smith said of Morillo, whose fastball has been clocked at 96 mph.
--CF Carlos Gomez became a father Wednesday when his wife, Gerandy, gave birth to a 7-pound, 1-ounce boy, which the couple named Yendel. Gomez, who was in Florida for the birth, will rejoin the Twins on Friday.
