Twinsportal.com | Minnesota Twins News, twins Scores, Game Recaps & Commentary - --DH Jason Kubel's batting gloves and batting helmet were sent to the National Baseball Hall of Fame after Kubel hit for the cycle Friday night. The museum wanted the souvenirs, the Twins said, to commemorate the historic nature of his cycle -- just the third in the last 100 years that was completed with a grand slam.
--OF Delmon Young didn't draw a walk during spring training, and through the Twins' first dozen games of the season. But the free-swinging outfielder took ball four during back-to-back games Saturday and Sunday, the first time since Aug. 4-5, 2008 that he had walked in consecutive games. The poor plate discipline limits Young's usefulness in the Twins' lineup; his on-base percentage is only .257 this season. --CF Carlos Gomez, who led the majors with 30 bunt singles in 2008, finally collected his first bunt hit of the 2009 season on Sunday. Gomez entered the game batting just .125 on the year.
BY THE NUMBERS: 0 -- Base stealers thrown out by Twins catchers Mike Redmond and Jose Morales, in 16 attempts, through the Twins' first 14 games.
QUOTE TO NOTE: "If you walk (Justin) Morneau and pitch to him, you're going to get your feelings hurt." -- OF Denard Span, on DH Jason Kubel, after Kubel hit for the cycle on April 19. Kubel's feat included an RBI double and a game-winning grand slam immediately following walks to Morneau
