Minnesota Twins Notes, Quotes 2008-05-01
--RHP Scott Baker threw a bullpen session Wednesday and felt "great," Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said, and the right-hander will make his next scheduled start Saturday, unless, that is, he wakes up Thursday feeling sore. Baker suffered a mild groin strain when he slipped on the mound while throwing a breaking ball in Texas last week.

--SS Adam Everett was activated from the 15-day disabled list after he had another pain-free infield session. Everett said he has no pain or soreness in his right shoulder and was happy with how quickly he regained comfort with his arm slot during his workout Wednesday morning. To make room for Everett on the 25-man roster, Minnesota sent INF Brian Buscher back to Class AAA Rochester. In eight at-bats in his two-week stint with the Twins, Buscher recorded two hits and one RBI.

--C Joe Mauer's 11-game hitting streak ended Wednesday when the backstop went 0-for-3 against the White Sox, although Mauer did reach base by walking in his first at-bat. The catcher is now hitting .295 on the season. The 11-game streak tied Mauer's career high, which he set in 2006. During this season's streak, Mauer batted .372 with four doubles, one triple, five RBIs, two walks and two strikeouts.

--CF Carlos Gomez stole his 11th base of the season Wednesday. Those 11 steals are the most for a Twins player through the end of April since Torii Hunter had 11 by April 30, 2005.

--RF Michael Cuddyer extended his hitting streak to six games with his first-inning single Wednesday. Cuddyer has now hit safely in all five games since being activated from the 15-day disabled list last week. He's played in 10 games this season.

BY THE NUMBERS: 12 -- Consecutive starts allowing three or fewer runs by RHP Scott Baker, a streak broken when Texas scored five runs against Baker on April 26.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "I don't know how you explain it. I have no idea. And I really don't even want to think about how. I just like the fact that the ball seems to find holes when I face him." -- DH Craig Monroe, who collected three hits off Oakland RHP Joe Blanton on April 22, giving him a .714 career average (10-for-14) against Blanton.
