Twinsportal.com | Minnesota Twins News, twins Scores, Game Recaps & Commentary - --RHP Scott Baker left the team Friday and flew to Fort Myers, Fla., where he will attempt to pitch another bullpen session over the weekend to test his sore groin. Baker felt some soreness in his last throwing session, and the Twins told him to take several more days of rest. If all goes well, he could make a rehab start late next week.
--LF Delmon Young lined a Ubaldo Jimenez pitch down the left-field line in the fourth inning and coasted into second base, snapping a streak of 80 at-bats without an extra-base hit. Young, whose last double came April 22 in Oakland, 20 games ago, added another double in the sixth inning, giving him five on the year to go with one triple and no home runs. --RHP Nick Blackburn slapped a dribbler in no-man's land between shortstop and third base in the fourth inning and beat out the grounder for his first major-league hit. "That was fun. I enjoyed it," Blackburn said. "It took me back to my high school days." It made up for his previous at-bat, when Blackburn slowed as he approached first base and ducked. "He could have beat that ball, too, but he thought the ball was going to hit him in the face so he stopped running," manager Ron Gardenhire said. "That's more what we expected to see."
--SS Adam Everett had only four RBI all season, but maybe he just needed to return to National League turf to start producing again. Everett drove in two runs, including the go-ahead run in the sixth inning, with two sacrifice flies.
--1B Justin Morneau collected a pair of singles, the third consecutive game -- and sixth time in his last seven -- that he has managed multiple hits. Morneau is batting .519 (14 for 27) over the past seven games.
BY THE NUMBERS: 40 -- Through May 10, Twins pitchers had surrendered an American League-high 40 home runs this season. Luckily for Minnesota, 33 of those 40 homers were solo shots. Of the remaining seven, five were for two runs, one was for three runs and one was a grand slam.
QUOTE TO NOTE: "You know what? The game started too late, and I said, let me run the bases quick so the game goes fast, and that's what I tried to do." -- CF Carlos Gomez, on why he sprinted around the bases after his leadoff home run in a rain-delayed game last week in Chicago. Gomez went on to hit for the cycle.
