Strong Shields: RHP James Shields is coming off his best start of the season, giving up just one run and four hits over 71/3 innings in a 1-0 loss to the Mariners. Shields is 1-1 with a 6.26 ERA in four career starts against the Twins, his highest ERA vs. any AL opponent. At the Metrodome, Shields is 0-1 in two starts with a 7.78 ERA (10 runs in 91/3 innings).

Off the mark: LHP Francisco Liriano has struggled this season, losing his first four starts, including giving up seven runs in four innings in his last outing in Boston. But Liriano has fared well against the Rays (2-0 with a 0.57 ERA).
